Mortlake Law was established in 2012 and became incorporated in 2019 as Mortlake Law Ltd trading as Mortlake Law & Mediation. From the beginning Richard Buxton founder was determined to run and organise a law firm with a difference. In the first place , Richard as as an experienced lawyer both in London and Singapore decided to provide his services to clients directly and does not delegate to unqualified staff. Richard encourages his clients to do some of the work themselves to save legal costs. It is interesting to note that 10 years later clients can now apply for divorce themselves digitally without the need for a lawyer . The firm has moved with the times and is now fully digital using technologies available from Leap, Quantum class legal( especially Form E) and Zero accounting software. After incorporation the company has grown rapidly and serviced clients continuously throughout Covid. Richard makes himself available out of the traditional 9-to-5 Monday to Friday adopted by the vast majority of solicitors. Richard does not invest in fancy offices or law libraries and by prudent economies provides an extremely cost-effective service. Richard added value by training as a Family Mediator in 2014 and qualified as an Accredited Civil and Commercial Mediator in 2019 and also as a Employment and Workplace Mediator. Richard is a multiple award winner- in 2022 he was awarded mediation expert of the year by corporate international. In family law Richard specialises in financial remedies on divorce acting for a wide variety of individuals and steering them through to successful negotiated settlements away from the family Court whenever possible. Richard has helped many individuals with child arrangements having personal experience after two divorces and three children of the flawed court system for children compared with the benefits of mediation and settling matters in private.

Richard has conducted many mediation successfully and professionally especially those involving property and TOLATA cases. Richard has also been in the forefront of One couple One lawyer service in family law

Richard has a rare combination of empathy and strength in his work as a family lawyer acquired through over a vast experience of not only family law but also of  property, litigation and advocacy both in England and Singapore (qualified 1977 and called to the Singapore bar 1994).

Richard can call upon a fully fledged firm of regulated solicitors based in Richmond to assist him in his work and is careful not to take on more work than he can handle.
