Career

Maayke graduated from Utrecht University in 1997. She gained work experience during successive spells with Trenité Van Doorne, De Brauw Blackstone Westbroek and Simmons & Simmons, before joining Ploum as a lawyer and partner in 2008.

Memberships

After graduating Maayke started working as an environmental lawyer. After she joined the partnership of Ploum in 2008, Maayke specialised in complex environmental law matters, with a special focus on external safety, hazardous substances/waste, energy (windfarms on- and offshore, solar energy farms, district heating) and climate/CO2 (capture storage). She acts on behalf of both governmental institutions and (the larger/multinational) commercial parties. Maayke’s practice focuses on both the legal and operational aspects of Seveso companies, in particular refineries, tank storage terminals and also of the chemical industry. She is a trusted sparring partner for the VOTOB and the VNPI. Maayke often lectures on environmental and Seveso topics, such as the PGS 29, major accident prevention policy, aging and enforcement actions.

Because of her expertise and vast experience, Maayke has been appointed as an administrative judge of the District court of Zeeland-West Brabant in 2015, where she handles complex environmental matters. In 2018, she was appointed as a member of the Council of the Rotterdam Bar Association and as a member of the supervisory board of the Purified Metal Company.
