Position

Simon Norris is a founding partner in Trinity International LLP and has a wide range of experience in the power, infrastructure, transport, mining, industrial, oil & gas and telecommunications sectors in various jurisdictions but with a real focus on emerging markets, particularly in Africa.

Although Simon’s experience is wide-ranging, Simon spends most of his time advising lenders and borrowers on project, trade, corporate and leveraged finance transactions. Simon has advised commercial banks including Standard Bank, Standard Chartered, Absa/Barclays, Nedbank and Rand Merchant Bank and DFIs such as African Development Bank, Africa Finance Corporation, DEG, EIB, FMO, IFC, KfW and Proparco.

Recent transactions include: advising lenders in respect of the financing of (i) a captive power company (Ghana), (ii) an HFO project (Kenya), (iii) a CSP plant (South Africa), (iv) a rail project (Nigeria) and (v) a container terminal and oil terminal; (Ghana); advising developers in respect of (vi) the Azura IPP (Nigeria), (vii) various off-grid solar transactions (Nigeria) and (viii) two gas and two solar PV IPPs (Mozambique), (ix) advising IFC on the structuring of the Mpatamanga hydro IPP (Malawi); and (x) advising KfW and the Government of Mozambique on the GetFit renewable programme for solar with storage projects (Mozambique).
