Rebecca Copley

Rebecca is a partner in our financial services disputes and investigations team and helps lead the retail finance sub sector. She is described by legal 500 as "exceptionally astute", "reassuringly commercial" and a "noted name for financial services". Rebecca has first-hand experience of the challenges facing the financial services industry. She has conducted several secondments and recently returned from a six month secondment at barclays where she undertook various regulatory investigations as a member of the litigation & investigations team. Her role involved scoping, conducting and reporting on the outcomes of investigations, liaising with stakeholders, ensuring compliance with the bank's regulatory and notification obligations and advising on any redress exercises to be undertaken. Rebecca's other secondment experience includes heading up the litigation and regulatory team of a major bank for one year and working with nationwide building society, assisting both the legal team with ppi issues and the compliance team with retail conduct matters. A key part of rebecca’s role is “horizon scanning”, identifying new trend areas and developments in consumer finance claims and issues of regulatory concern to the regulators. Rebecca provides strategic advice to a variety of financial institutions on how to tackle these challenges, particularly those attracting high levels of interest from claims management companies. Rebecca also regularly advises lenders on how to ensure that they handle their complaint obligations effectively, whether that be delivering fair customer outcomes, complying with the requirements of the disp rules, dealing with fos claims, litigation portfolios, back book exercises or undertaking effective root cause analysis. Rebecca also provides legal and regulatory due diligence support to purchasers and vendors involved in retail finance acquisitions.
