Career

"I enjoy operating in an environment where there is a genuine mix of cultures, and build close relationships with entrepreneurial clients."

Tim Casben is based in Dubai, which has established itself as not only a hub for the region but also Africa. He enjoys operating in an environment where there is a genuine mix of cultures, and seeks to build close relationships with entrepreneurial clients, working alongside them as they embark on long and hopefully successful journeys.

Tim is the Managing Partner of the Dubai office and heads up the corporate team. He has over 20 years' experience including seven years in Dubai covering all aspects of corporate work, M&A, private equity and joint ventures.

Tim is highly regarded as providing commercial and pragmatic advice in a challenging legal environment.

Tim's UK experience acting for large corporates and entrepreneurs is particularly relevant in a market where many established companies are family owned and run.

Highlights

Highlights in Tim's career so far have included assisting a number of businesses from start up/early stage to high value exits, a couple of which have grown from sub $10 million to over $500 million. A further highlight has been assisting with the establishment of the successful Dubai office and building a high quality team that he enjoys working with and, more importantly, the clients enjoy working with.

Clients

Institutions, family offices and high net worth individuals with entrepreneurial streaks.

Outside work

Tim helped to establish an annual event in Dubai that has raised over £950,000 for Help for Heroes in the past five years.

Experience

Tim heads the corporate practice in the Middle East. He focuses on corporate finance, mergers and acquisitions, joint ventures and private equity.

Advising Kalahari Minerals Plc from its pre-IPO fundraising through IPO to its US$1bn takeover by a Chinese government-backed entity. Kalahari was listed on AIM with a US$20million market capitalisation as a mineral exploration company. It went on to discover the world's third largest uranium deposit, which became a target for a number of different governments and major corporates.

I also advised Advising Archipelago Resources Plc from its pre-IPO fundraising stage, through IPO, to a US$550m takeover. The company went through a number of challenging periods and was eventually taken over by its majority shareholder.

Advising a family office based in the Middle East on a US$246m disposal of a key strategic asset, including advice all aspects of the transaction and its structuring.

Acting for a new mining exploration company that is growing through acquisitions and farm-in arrangements in East Africa.

Advising family offices on a complex dynastic structuring, using corporate/fund vehicles to assist in wealth preservation for future generations.
