Please read through the following instructions to help you get the most from The Legal 500 Historical Data service. Note that complete historical data is available to download as a simple Excel spreadsheet from the home pages of each available edition.
FILTER OPTIONS
1) INITIAL FILTER
Historical Data views are supplied with filters to allow you to drill down to the exact data you need. The first filter to the top right of your data view is the Control Filter. Use the check boxes to determine which subsequent filters may be applied to the data view you have selected. NB that all adjustments to the data view will require the data to be reprocessed. Due to the amount of data involved, new visualisations can take a few moments to appear on screen.
2) SUBSEQUENT FILTERS
Depending on your initial selection from the Control Filter, various options will appear beneath to allow you to narrow your data search more precisely. Select from the checkboxes to create the visualisation you need.
3) ADDITIONAL FILTERS
Different data views feature various filter types to help you break up the data more effectively. Choosing combinations of these filters allows you to track rankings performance via different interpretations. In the example at right, a particular grouping of firms might be selected (using the “Firm Name” filter), over a chosen period of time (using the “Year” filter”), with a specific range of tier rankings (using the “Ranking” slide filter. The “Table Type” filter in this example has “Recommended fims” selected, meaning that only principally recommended firms are included in the resulting data visualisation.
4) FILTER FUNCTIONS
Additional options are available within text-based filters: hovering at the top right of the “Firm Name” filter in the example on the right reveals a magnifying glass. Clicking on this allows the user to search directly for a specific firm (rather than scrolling through large numbers of firms in the drop-down box).
Use the “All” check box on relevant filters to reset the data to include or exclude all items in the filter list. This can be easier than going through selecting or unselecting individual options from a previous selection.
Next to the magnifying glass search option is a small arrow. Click on this to toggle between multiple value or single value lists. This can either simplify your filtering options, restricting your view to individual selections rather than the entire available range; or vice versa. You can also toggle between excluding or including your selected values from your data view here.
VIEWING OPTIONS
1) ORDERING DATA
Once the data visualisation filtering is finalised, you can toggle the ordering of your data on screen (eg to run in reverse size order rather than largest number first) by clicking on the small graph icon at the bottom of the data view.
2) INTERACTIVE VIEWS
For more information from individual charts, hover over the relevant record to reveal the numbers behind the visualisation.
