National law firm, Weightmans is celebrating a trilogy of successes for its ESG leadership team.

Weightmans was the second-best performing law firm among the UK’s top 75 in 2024 for greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, according to The Lawyer’s new Emissions Tracker report. The report “seeks to shed light on the climate impact of the legal sector and foster a culture of accountability and improvement”, positioning Weightmans among the very best in the industry.

For the second consecutive year, Weightmans features in The Legal 500’s UK Green Guide, the 2025 Edition – which showcases key UK law firms who are “leading the way in sustainability”. The guide says Weightmans “makes an impactful contribution to the decarbonisation of the built environment, insurance, and local government sectors”, and provides clients with “expertise into regulatory compliance, sustainability strategy, and transition-focused transactional mandates”. The guide also namechecks Weightmans’ esteemed ESG manager, Abhay Srivastava.

In other news, Simon Colvin, Weightmans ESG lead, has been named in The Legal 500’s brand-new list of Green Ambassadors, highlighting a small number of individual lawyers who have “shown an exceptionally strong engagement with sustainability matters”.

Simon Colvin said:

“What an incredible way to end the year and a real endorsement to the work we are doing in our ambition to be one of the UK’s most socially and environmentally conscious law firms. Congratulations to the Weightmans team, whose passion and understanding of this ever-evolving landscape has made all this possible – but also to our people at every level of the firm who as a collective and through initiatives such as our ESG Advisory Group have placed ESG right at the heart of our business.

“ESG and green transition will continue to be a top priority for the firm as we enter the new year, both in respect to our own operations and also in the work supporting our clients with integrated solutions to their own ESG challenges; navigating a complex world of changing regulations, with new and emerging technologies such as AI to harness, and with extra impetus on ethical supply chains and greater transparency. We are ready to meet these challenges head-on in 2025 and beyond.”

This latest chapter in Weightmans’ ESG journey comes after a year of successes for the firm in this area:

    • Weightmans received the highest Platinum rating by EcoVadis, a global sustainability rating provider, positioning the firm in the top 1% of legal and accounting businesses globally for ESG/sustainability performance and processes
    • Achieved ISO 14001 and ISO 50001 certifications for the fifth year in a row, providing further recognition for the firm’s sustainability policies, including its commitment to becoming Net Zero by 2030
    • Announced an exciting new partnership with two respected players making waves in the world of ESG consulting/advisory – Stories Evolved and Paragon Impact; meaning Weightmans can now offer complete, end-to-end solutions for the ESG needs of all businesses, covering legal, training, and consulting, as well as tech and data management services for high quality ESG disclosures

The Lawyer’s Emissions Tracker report calculates a firm’s emissions footprint, combining its per employee, per square foot, and per £1m in revenue stats, plus considers the firm’s dedication to the cause.
