Nagashima Ohno & Tsunematsu (Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo, Japan; “NO&T”) is pleased to announce a new association with an independent Indonesian law firm IM & Partners under the name of “IM & Partners in association with Nagashima Ohno & Tsunematsu” as of February 1, 2023.
Indonesia is one of the largest markets in ASEAN, home to a large population and a long-standing presence of many Japanese companies. It is among the jurisdictions we have focused on extensively in our Asian practice. For over a decade, we have been enhancing our knowledge and expertise in Indonesian legal practice through our alliances with leading local law firms in Indonesia, the dispatch of Japan qualified lawyers to Indonesia, and the recruitment and training of Indonesia qualified lawyers in our Singapore office. In addition, our Singapore office has played a central role in advising Japanese companies on a variety of Indonesian matters, including those involving M&A, real estate development, labor relations, debt collection, fraud investigations, and crisis management.
Mr. Ichsan Montang, who joined our Singapore office in 2017 and has been working on Indonesian matters founded IM & Partners in Jakarta, and will serve as the representative of the firm.
Mr. Montang is an Indonesia qualified lawyer with vast experience in advising Japanese companies on Indonesia-related matters through his work at NO&T. We will provide more tailored legal services to companies in Indonesia by making use of that experience as well as by leveraging the experience and knowledge of the entire office that we have amassed over the years. By the end of the year, we also intend to assign Mr. Yoichi Maekawa to IM & Partners. Mr. Maekawa is a Japan qualified lawyer with extensive experience in handling Indonesian legal matters, and he has been previously seconded to a local law firm in Jakarta.
We are committed to providing even more dedicated services to our clients in connection with Indonesian legal matters through the close cooperation of IM & Partners and Singapore office, as well as with assistance of the Tokyo and other offices.
