TrustLaw is Thomson Reuters Foundation’s global pro bono legal program. TrustLaw introduced SyCipLaw to Roots of Health or Ugat ng Kalusugan (http://rootsofhealth.org), an NGO that provides, among others, health education and health services in Palawan. Roots of Health submitted the nomination to TrustLaw, which narrowed down the more than 70 nominees to six finalists.
In her nomination, Ms. Amina Evangelista Swanepoel, the founding executive director of Roots of Health, states: “We have been blown away by all the help that Hector and his team have given us. He is so deserving of this award.”
In response to his nomination, Hector states: “I am greatly honored to be nominated for the award and to belong to the final six. SyCipLaw is happy to provide legal services to an organization that has the mission of fostering self-reliant women, young people, and families in Palawan. I hope people around the world will get to know more about Roots of Health and the important work it does in Palawan.”
While SyCipLaw has handled many pro bono matters from the time the firm was founded in 1945, it was during Hector’s term as managing partner when the firm adopted pro bono guidelines and formalized the firm’s commitment to providing legal services for worthy causes or to deserving persons of limited means.
