The EU Commission has revealed its latest legislative framework with regard to the regulation of AI. With the aim of creating a global standard, the EU Commission has adopted a risk-based approach to regulating this vast and ever-growing computer science. The legislative framework creates a four tier risk system which can be updated with the emergence of new technologies.
AI – The Legal Framework
The new framework introduces an outright ban on governmental social scoring. This is a system that judges people based solely on their behavior. The ban extends also over the use of AI to exploit children. “It can be a case where a toy uses voice systems to manipulate a child into doing something dangerous,” EU Executive Vice President of the European Commission Margrethe Vestager said. “Such uses have no place in Europe and therefore we propose to ban them.”
