Event Report
On September 19th, The Legal 500 was delighted to return to Amsterdam to host the GC Summit Netherlands 2023. The event brought together leading general counsel, private practice practitioners, and consultants based in the Netherlands. They engaged in insightful discussions and exchanged ideas on cutting-edge legal topics through three outstanding panel discussions.
The first session, moderated by Herman Ruiter from Heussen, explored the latest trends in commercial and corporate litigation, such as litigation financing, legal design, alternative dispute resolution, and ESG-litigation. Sara Liesker (Liesker Procesfinanciering), Maurits Fornier (Patroon Legal Design), and Ianis Girgenson (United Group) joined the discussion and provided practical insights and shared best practices.
Sabine Schoute, shareholder at Greenberg Traurig, introduced the following session. Â Along with Thijs Elseman, also a shareholder at Greenberg Traurig, she led a panel consisting of Klaas Wagenaar, (FTI Consulting), and Steven Geers (CNova). The discussion explored the ever-changing landscape of corporate restructuring in The Netherlands, with a focus on the regulatory environment, the study of successful case studies, stakeholder collaboration, and cross-border considerations.
To conclude the Summit, Allan Cohen, research editor at The Legal 500 chaired a panel on the changing role of general counsel. Joining him were Olga Prokopovych (ICU) and Mischa Menheere (West Coast Supply Group). They discussed the emergence of general counsels as pivotal leaders and essential strategic allies in today’s business environment. They also touched upon the consequences of going through the global pandemic, geopolitical changes, and other economic pressures.
After a very compelling Summit filled with many questions from the audience, attendees continued the conversation and enjoyed a valuable networking opportunity over drinks and canapés by the Amstel River.
Many thanks to our insightful speakers and our panel sponsors, Heussen and Greenberg Traurig. Special appreciation also goes to our networking sponsors, FTI Consulting and Taylor Root, for partnering with us on this successful event in Amsterdam.
