Event Report
The Legal 500 is delighted to present our second GC Powerlist: Vietnam, which was hugely well attended by around 120 hugely distinguished corporate counsel at the Park Hyatt Saigon. Congratulations to everyone featured in the 2024 edition, and it was a huge honour for us to be able to share the room with all of the winners on Thursday evening.
This year, we in our research team were faced with the considerable challenge of updating the list of awardees to reflect market changes while retaining a core of the most impressive leading GCs in the previous edition, which was no easy task!
With that said, I am pleased to announce that the 2024 GC Powerlist: Vietnam succeeds in these two somewhat contradictory objectives, building on the huge success of 2023’s Powerlist while adding a raft of top corporate counsel who are appearing for the first time.
Our GC Keynote speaker Thuy Tran of Cathay United Bank, a hugely impressive corporate counsel who has been a great help to the Legal 500 research team over the past few years, was the first distinguished guest invited to address the audience on stage.
Sponsor law firms Frasers Law Company, LNT & Partners and VILAF had key representatives join the stage to address the crowd. Mark Fraser, founder and managing partner of Frasers spoke first, with managing partner of LNT Hoà ng Nguyễn Hạ Quyên and Chairperson and Partner Vo Ha Duyen of VILAF Following. Each stressed their steadfast commitment to support the in-house legal community of Vietnam throughout all their challenges, and spoke of how thankful they are that the talented lawyers featured in the GC Powerlist were getting recognition that is often not forthcoming to GCs compared to law firm partners.
The main event of the evening, the award ceremony and photo op, followed next. Ho Thuy Ngoc Tram, partner of Frasers Law Company, assisted in reading out the names of awardees. She was reunited with old classmates and colleagues on stage who received their accolades before the party continued into the evening.
We look forward to seeing how the rapidly-changing business landscape of Vietnam, and the skilled corporate counsel who support it, develops in the 12 months before our next edition when we crown a new group of GCs in the Vietnam GC Powerlist 2025.
