Over the last 25 years, Mexico’s corporate legal sector has developed out of all recognition… modernisation, professionalisation and institutionalisation radically transforming both the breadth and the quality of the market’s legal offering. And the country needs such sophistication like never before: the conjunctural window constituted by “near-shoring” has proven briefer than hoped amidst current global political turmoil, with the plus-factor of geographic proximity further undermined by security and long-standing underinvestment concerns. Moreover, the pending review of the trilateral USMCA agreement, due in July 2026, constitutes an additional uncertainty for potential investors. With additional factors ranging from the country’s populist judicial reform (2024) and a hard-line fiscal policy to the administration’s decision to eschew established PPP models for its 2026-30 infrastructure programme, the horizon is challenging to say the least.
In the face of such a scenario, the country’s deeply competitive legal sector continues to prove itself not just dynamic but also resilient, flexible and creative. For all these reasons the Legal 500 is delighted to once again recognise the leading legal players from both the private practice and in-house segments who have contributed to the vibrancy of the Mexican market.
These awards are determined based on Legal 500’s market-leading independent research for the annual directory. Winners are selected by a judging team spearheaded by Legal 500 Latin America editor Tim Girven, head of in-house research Joe Boswell, and other editors, along with over 20 in-house and freelance researchers with in-depth knowledge of their practice areas. This is the same team responsible for the annual production of our authoritative guide, using the same evidence base. Some practice areas have stand-alone awards, while others are thematic groupings of directory practice areas.
