With Morena’s overwhelming electoral victory, the imagined post-AMLO political scenario (and associated economic outlook) has not come to pass; instead, the new administration of President Claudia Sheinbaum has pressed ahead with a populist agenda, most emblematically, a reform of the judiciary that will fundamentally undermine its independence. Coupled with the advent of a second Trump administration in the United States (replete with tariff threats and an apparent will to rewrite diplomatic process), Mexico’s economic and legal horizon looks very different from that hoped for just 12-18 months ago.
As a result, the country’s corporate legal sector – both private practice and in-house – is once more having to rise to unexpected challenges. Creative responses and ingenuity, along with adherence to the essentials of competitively-priced, high-quality service provision will be the cornerstones of successful private practice during this administration. In such a scenario, Legal 500 is delighted to once again recognise the leading legal players from private practice and in-house who have contributed to the vibrancy of the Mexican market. These awards are determined based on The Legal 500’s market-leading independent research for the annual directory.
Winners are selected by a judging team spearheaded by Legal 500 Latin America editor Tim Girven, head of in-house research Joe Boswell, and other editors, along with over 20 in-house and freelance researchers with in-depth knowledge of their practice areas. This is the same team responsible for the annual production of our authoritative guide, using the same evidence base. Some practice areas have stand-alone awards, while others are thematic groupings of directory practice areas.
