Event Report
Over 200 guests gathered together for the ASAR Conference 2023 in association with The Legal 500, KAPP and WAPPP on December 4th at the fabulous Waldorf Astoria in Kuwait City.
The conference explored the potential of Public-Private Partnerships (PPPs) in driving economic progress in Kuwait. Topics discussed included: global volatility in the PPP and project finance arena; critical success factors for sustainable PPPs; the challenges facing PPP project financing; the investment climate in Kuwait and a brief evaluation of the current regulatory PPP regime in Kuwait and its impact on the structuring and procurement of PPPs.
The conference was expertly chaired by Ahmed Barakat, Managing Partner of ASAR and, during the course of the day, we heard from senior officials from organisations representing Economist Intelligence Unit, KAPP, Kamco Invest, Markaz, National Bank of Kuwait, WAPPP, Kuwait Petroleum, Umm Al Hayman for Wastewater Treatment Company, Hogan Lovells, Commercial Bank of Kuwait, AlShall Group, Covington & Burling and Kuwait Direct Investment Promotion Authority.
The Legal 500 was delighted to be part of this fantastic event and contributed to the programme with the final panel session of the day which explored the general counsel’s role in PPPs. Moderated with charm and authority by Amr Wageeh, Senior General Legal Counsel at Kuwait Direct Investment Promotion Authority, the panel also included expert insight from Munib Khan, Executive Counsel at GE Gas Power and Hisham Al-Hajjar, General Counsel at Wafra International Investment. We would like to thank ASAR for organising a great programme that engaged the audience throughout the day and for inviting The Legal 500 to take part. We look forward to returning to Kuwait for next year’s conference.
