On the 7th of September, The Legal 500, in collaboration with Baker McKenzie, proudly unveiled the GC Powerlist: Colombia 2023. The much-anticipated launch event unfolded at the breathtaking JW Marriott in Bogotá. This gathering brought together over 100 distinguished attendees, all of whom are prominent and accomplished in-house lawyers in Colombia. Their purpose was to celebrate this outstanding and well-deserved recognition.
The evening commenced with a warm welcome from The Legal 500’s Francisco Castro, whose opening address set the tone for the event. He expressed his excitement at the return of the GC Powerlist series to Colombia, congratulated all those included and offered insights into the exclusive interviews with in-house lawyers featured in the publication.
Following Francisco’s address, Alejandro Mesa, managing partner for Baker McKenzie in Colombia, extended congratulations to all those honored on the GC Powerlist: Colombia 2023. He also lauded the ongoing development and expansion of the in-house legal role in the country, a growth to which Baker McKenzie hopes to contribute. Before concluding his speech, Alejandro Mesa introduced the evening’s keynote speaker, Diana Solano, legal director at Compass Group Services Colombia.
Diana’s address centered on the growing significance of in-house legal departments within companies, particularly in Colombia. She also explored what it means for in-house lawyers to earn a place in this prestigious and exclusive publication. Diana’s remarks concluded with a focus on diversity and the crucial need for more women in decision-making roles within legal departments.
