Event Report
On the evening of October 17th, The Legal 500 made its way to Quito for the grand launch of the highly-anticipated GC Powerlist: Ecuador 2023. This remarkable event unfolded at the exquisite ‘La Ideal’ venue, where the cream of Quito’s in-house counsel community congregated to celebrate their well-deserved recognition.
Stepping onto the stage, Sara Maggi, deputy editor of The Legal 500 GC Powerlist Series, extended a warm welcome to all the attendees. She shared insights gleaned from this year’s research, shedding light on the challenges faced by lawyers in Ecuador and the impressive readiness they exhibit in crafting plans and solutions to conquer these challenges.
Following Sara’s opening remarks, Jorge Paz, the founding partner at Dentons Paz Horowitz, addressed the audience with heartfelt congratulations for all present. He emphasised the importance that general counsel assume for their companies and the crucial role they play in their development, especially during turbulent phases. Jorge welcomed on stage Gabriel SolÃs Vinueza, partner at Dentons who was recognised in the previous edition of the GC Powerlist for the country. Gabriel’s recent experience both in-house and in private practice allowed him to empathise with the in-house counsel in the room, understanding the daily challenges they face and the importance of greater recognition.
MarÃa Gabriela Jijón, general counsel, corporate affairs manager, and chief compliance officer at Holcim, took the stage next. She provided valuable insights into the legal landscape in Ecuador, stressing the necessity of overcoming these challenges not only as individuals but as a cohesive legal community.
The evening culminated in a lively networking session, offering a platform for attendees to engage in thought-provoking discussions. Amid the backdrop of shared insights and the forging of new connections, the event exemplified the spirit of celebrating legal excellence and fostering unity.
The Legal 500 extended their heartfelt gratitude to all those who participated in their research. A special thanks to our sponsor, Dentons Paz Horowitz, whose support was instrumental in bringing this event to life.
