Event Report
Frequently one of the Legal 500’s best attended annual events, this year’s edition of the GC Powerlist: Southeast Asia was no exception, as GCs from across the region assembled in Singapore to celebrate the profession’s best and brightest.
With representatives from countries across the region, spanning Thailand to Vietnam, and Cambodia to Laos, topics of conversation on the evening were predictably varied – not exactly surprising given the disparate customs and cultures, and rules and regulations apparent. But for as much as local issues for counsel differed, in many cases the underlying strategies and responses were rooted in the same principles: serving as an effective business partner and steward of risk.
Hosting the event on the eve of International Women’s Day, Shantini Sanmuganathan, group general counsel at Singtel, was tabbed as the guest speaker for the evening – delivering a rousing address commenting not just on the success of the counsel and organisations represented on the evening, but what it would take to remain at the vanguard – touching on diversity and technology in particular.
Following the formal portion of the evening, guests were treated to an evening reception held at Smoke & Mirrors – a venue on top of Singapore’s National Gallery, hosted by GC magazine editor-in-chief, Alex Speirs.
The Legal 500 would like to thank our partners for their generous support: Jones Day, Frasers Law Company, Kudun and Partners, J. Sagar Associates, Mohanadass Partnership, Blackstone Chambers, FTI Consulting and Pure Search.
