Sponsored by TRSM, our first panel tackled the formidable terrain of regulatory challenges in Argentina’s legal landscape. With representatives from regulatory bodies, attendees gained firsthand insights into the evthe olving regulatory frameworks impacting various sectors. Discussions revolved around the necessity of fostering connections between different legal systems and jurisdictions to ensure efficiency and compliance. The panel shed light on common obstacles encountered in regional legal environments, offering strategic insights for overcoming them. Moreover, it underscored the pivotal role played by legal departments in navigating and managing risks within the regional legal landscape.
Hosted by Deloitte, our third panel explored the transformative potential of emerging technologies in enhancing legal operations and client services. Moreover, it also delved into crucial considerations for legal professionals navigating the legal tech ecosystem, including implementation strategies, data security concerns, and ethical considerations. By exploring real-world examples and sharing best practices, the panel equipped attendees with the knowledge and tools needed to effectively navigate and leverage legal technology in their practices.
After the three sessions, Margherita Birri, Research Editor for The Legal 500, interviewed Paula Pfizenmeier, Head of IP & BP, Legal Central Director at Mercado Libre. Paula was asked to share insights into her role and the transition from working in law firms to an in-house position. She highlighted the significant role of technology in daily operations and its impact on intellectual property (IP) protection strategies and how this has reshaped the team’s function. Paula discussed the challenges of leadership and offered advice for those starting their careers. She also reflected on the challenges she has faced as a woman in her legal career, especially in a traditionally male-dominated field, which has presented its own set of obstacles. Despite these challenges, she has persevered.  As a takeaway, Paula emphasized the importance of fearlessness in navigating a career: exploring new avenues, and pushing boundaries to achieve professional, and personal growth and success. This insight provides aspiring legal professionals with a powerful reminder to embrace uncertainty and step outside their comfort zones as they embark on their careers.
The event concluded with a fully vibrant networking session accompanied by drinks and canapés at the beautiful Palacio Duhau in Buenos Aires, providing the perfect backdrop for attendees to connect and engage in meaningful conversations.
