Event Report
The GC Summit Ireland made a fantastic comeback on the 7th of February 2023 at The Marker Hotel, Dublin. The event saw a full room of in-house professionals in attendance, as well as three leading law firms, Dillon Eustace, Maples Group and ByrneWallace. The event kicked off with an inspiring keynote speech delivered by Vice President and Assistant General Counsel of Aramark, Emily Ennis. Â
The first panel, sponsored by Dillon Eustace, followed right after the keynote speech and took a deep delve into understanding the Senior Executive Accountability Regime (SEAR). This panel and discussion were exceedingly diverse and was moderated by partners from Dillon Eustace; John O’Riordan and Keith Waine. The discussion incorporated an in-house perspective from the Group General Counsel of AIB, Helen Dooley and featured insight from Racheal Batten, the general manager and national R&D lead and data protection research support services at the HSE.
Our second panel had an unusual twist, with Sarah Irwin, Head of legal of Tines, moderating a panel of speakers from our sponsor Maples Group. The discussion centred on giving in-house counsel practical advice for handling regulators and investigations and incorporated guidance from partners from Maples Group; Brian Clarke, Claire Morrisey and Karen Killalea.
After a rejuvenating coffee break, the next session was graciously welcomed by the audience, sponsored by BryneWallace, which led them through cybersecurity challenges and new regulations in Ireland. The speakers included Jon Legorburu, head of litigation and dispute resolution at ByrneWallace who moderated the session with Colm MacCarvill, assistant general counsel of Squarespace and Meabh Gallagher, corporate governance director, company secretary and data protection officer at Aer Lingus.
The event was crowned with a networking session filled with drinks and canapés for all attendees. As always, The Legal 500 was thrilled to host the GC Summit Ireland and delighted to receive positive feedback from attendees on the content and makeup of all panels. We are grateful to our sponsors, FTI Consulting, Dillon Eustace, Maples Group and ByrneWallace for partnering with us to make this event a reality.
