Event Report

Following the launch of their global thought leadership On 2 October, The Legal 500 had the pleasure of hosting a Sustainability Legal Think Tank in collaboration with PwC, focusing on how legal functions can navigate the evolving landscape of sustainability risk and unlock broader business value. We were delighted to welcome in-house counsels and company secretaries across a variety of sectors who contributed to this engaging discussion.

Matt Timmons, Partner in PwC’s Entity, Governance and Compliance team at PwC, opened the session by outlining the changing role of general counsels and Company Secretaries and the involvement of the legal and company secretarial functions in the organisation’s strategic projects, particularly regarding ESG.

Key points of discussion included:

– Monitoring new regulations and global trends that teams should prepare for,

– Understanding the implications of director liability in particular at both Parent and Subsidiary Boards

– Assessing how sustainability regulations influence deal-making, due diligence, and litigation strategies

– Identifying the changes required within legal and company secretarial functions to address these challenges and support transformation.
