Long best known as Mexico’s primary tourism destination, the role and significance of Cancún has developed rapidly over the course of the last sexenio. The post pandemic period, in particular, has seen a notable uptick in immigration to the city (and its environs), which also benefits from the only airport in the province capable of receiving long haul international flights. While the tourism and hospitality sector remains dominant, real estate demands have broadened significantly, with a growing and more diversified residential segment and an increased appetite for office and industrial properties. This roundtable will consider the effect of this recent growth on the real estate market of the city (and to a lesser extent, the surrounding region), addressing common issues affecting real estate matters (particularly those related to security) along with public policy and the perspectives of relevant local authorities. Reflecting on the range of legal service requirements that real estate work can necessitate (from M&A to litigation), It will also seek to consider how this growth is likely to continue – both geographically and as regards ongoing market diversification.
