Career

Fernando Veiga Gomes is a Partner and has been at Abreu Advogados since 2009, working mainly on matters related to corporate mergers and acquisitions, and sports law.

He has extensive experience in advising on transactions in various sectors, including transport, sport, real estate and tourism.

In 1988 he was on secondment as a foreign lawyer at Herbert Smith, an international law firm in London. From 2003 to 2006, he worked as an advisor to the Board of Directors of EDP, Portugal’s foremost electricity services provider.

He has also been working on matters related to Angola since 2006 and is one of the joint managers of the firm’s Angolan Desk, which deals with a number of foreign investment operations in Angola.

He manages the area of sports law, now considered a main practice area in Portugal, focusing on the incorporation and acquisition of sports companies. He has advised several football clubs, investors, players, athletes, sports agents and federations at the national and international level.
