Position

Gianrico regularly advises Italian and international banks, financial institutions, asset managers and investment funds on regulatory matters, securitization transactions and bond loans (including project bonds and minibonds). Gianrico has gained extensive experience in securitization transactions over different asset classes, including loans (non-performing and unlikely to pay), including where secured by state guarantees, and synthetic securitizations. He has also recently worked on the structuring of an innovative digital marketplace model for trading in portfolios of impaired loans.

Career

Gianrico Giannesi joined the Firm in 2020 as a Partner. He previously was a Partner at an international law firm. Since 2024 Co-Head of the “Debt Finance” Practice Area.

He is Professor of Banking and Structured Finance at “Luiss Business School” and University of Verona (Masters and PhD level).

Chiomenti advises high-profile banks on acquisition, corporate and real estate financings, as well as refinancings. The practice also covers cross-border matters. Gregorio Consoli heads up the finance and regulated entities department; Giulia Battaglia assists with real estate, acquisition and project financings; Giorgio Cappelli advises on acquisition and structured finance; Gianrico Giannesi acts for both Italian and international banks; and Marco Cerritelli  is an infrastructure finance expert. The team also includes experienced banking and finance practitioner Girolamo D’Anna, an adviser on leverage, acquisition and corporate finance. Davide D’Affronto and Nicholas Lasagna joined from Simmons & Simmons in 2025. Riccardo Rossi departed in October 2024.

Chiomenti supports a wide range of clients, including distressed companies, creditors and bodies, in insolvency proceedings and distressed M&A. The firm is well-versed in the new Insolvency Code, supporting clients with negotiated crisis composition and arrangement with creditors proceedings. Giulia Battaglia, alongside Rome-based Gianrico Giannesi, is based in Milan and specialises in complex transaction structuring for debtors, banks and investors. Also in the Milan office, practice head Antonio Tavella advises clients on distressed M&A and finance matters as well as the purchaser of receivables. Giada Caravello focuses on debt restructuring and special situations.
