Jeroen Kortmann  – Stibbe

Stibbe‘s dispute resolution team handles a mix of corporate and commercial disputes and is known for its expertise in mass damages and class actions lawsuits. Banking and finance litigation is a primary focus of the firm, which often assists banks as defense counsel. On the corporate litigation side, the team represents a range of clients from various sectors, from private equity to IT, infrastructure and shipping. The team also handles antitrust litigation in mass damage claims, auditor claims and contractual disputes. It also has Supreme Court litigation capabilities. The team is jointly led by disputes experts Jeroen Kortmann, Matthijs Kuijpers and Branda Katan from Amsterdam. Tim de Greve is a name to note for commercial litigation; he is well versed in contractual and tort disputes, professional liability and corporate and director’s fraud cases. Gertjan Boekraad specialises in audit and accountancy-related disputes.

Netherlands > Dispute resolution: class actions

Stibbe‘s Amsterdam-based class actions team is a leading force in the Netherlands, standing out for its specialism in collective redress and cross-border mass claims. The team acts for major international and multinational corporations across a wide range of industries. The team has handled a number of ESG-related class actions involving greenwashing claims, automotive industry issues and mass damage claims related to natural disasters. Antitrust litigation is another stand out area for the firm, alongside shareholder claims and public interest class actions. The team is jointly led by litigation experts Jeroen Kortmann, Matthijs Kuijpers and Branda Katan. Kortmann excels in defending clients in cross-border mass litigations; Katan is a professor of corporate litigation at Leiden University and is an authority on environmental claims; and Kuijpers represents domestic and international clients in mass damage claims.

Netherlands > EU and competition

At Stibbe, the EU and competition practice is highly regarded for representing prominent clients in a range of complex matters. Under the joint leadership of Rein Wesseling and Jeroen Kortmann, the team is well versed in handling complex merger control work, antitrust issues and FDI matters, to name a few areas of expertise. Litigation forms a core pillar of the practice: Kortmann is well known for advising on contentious antitrust issues, while Branda Katan is often instructed for the defence in complex litigation. Roos Elemans is a key contact for FDI issues, and is well versed in advising on cartel investigations, abuse of dominance claims and cross-border merger control matters. Nima Lorjé joined the group in late 2023, and Stijn de Jong made partner in January 2024.
