Stibbe‘s Amsterdam-based class actions team is a leading force in the Netherlands, standing out for its specialism in collective redress and cross-border mass claims. The team acts for major international and multinational corporations across a wide range of industries. The team has handled a number of ESG-related class actions involving greenwashing claims, automotive industry issues and mass damage claims related to natural disasters. Antitrust litigation is another stand out area for the firm, alongside shareholder claims and public interest class actions. The team is jointly led by litigation experts Jeroen Kortmann, Matthijs Kuijpers and Branda Katan. Kortmann excels in defending clients in cross-border mass litigations; Katan is a professor of corporate litigation at Leiden University and is an authority on environmental claims; and Kuijpers represents domestic and international clients in mass damage claims.

At Stibbe, the EU and competition practice is highly regarded for representing prominent clients in a range of complex matters. Under the joint leadership of Rein Wesseling and Jeroen Kortmann, the team is well versed in handling complex merger control work, antitrust issues and FDI matters, to name a few areas of expertise. Litigation forms a core pillar of the practice: Kortmann is well known for advising on contentious antitrust issues, while Branda Katan is often instructed for the defence in complex litigation.
