Head of Restructuring and Recovery

Catarina is a Principal Associate and the Head of the Restructuring and Recovery area at  Deloitte Legal practice in Portugal, that she joined in February 2022.

Since 2024, Catarina has been part of the Contracts team at Deloitte Legal Portugal, as well as the Steerco of the Contracts team at Deloitte Legal Global and the GenAI Contracts focus group at Deloitte Legal Global.

With 18 years of professional experience, Catarina works mainly in the areas of Restructuring and Insolvency and Credit Recovery, advising national and international clients.

She has coordinated and actively participated in several insolvency and restructuring proceedings and in transactions of great importance, complexity and high economic value, both internal and cross border, advising companies in financial distress and also creditors, particularly in the banking, financial, real estate, automotive and aviation sectors.

Her experience includes, among other, the definition of restructuring models and recovery strategies, the conduction of due diligence procedures, participating in the drafting, negotiation and execution of agreements and contracts (acting preventively in identifying and managing risks that could lead to litigation) and assistance in the related legal proceedings.

Catarina has large experience in credit and asset portfolio management and in due diligences on NPL portfolios, defining recovery and asset acquisition’s strategies. She also has experience in foreign judgments’ recognition and enforcement proceedings.

Before joining Deloitte Legal , her professional career was developed at PLMJ Advogados, SP, RL, where she led the Credit Recovery and Insolvency’s team.

She has been publishing several articles and chapters about her main practice areas’ topics in well-known international journals and technical publications.

Member of the Portuguese Bar Association since 2006.

Member of INSOL EUROPE, INSOL INTERNATIONAL, IBA (Insolvency Section) and WORLD LAW GROUP (Dispute Resolution Group and Restructuring & Insolvency Resolution Group).

Postgraduate Degree in Legal Sciences by Universidade Católica Portuguesa (Lisbon School), 2008.

Law Degree by the Law School of Universidade Nova de Lisboa, 2004.
