Position

Mathias specialises in technology and digitalisation. He is a leading expert in Norway on legal aspects of Artificial Intelligence (AI). Mathias obtained his PhD in 2024 with a thesis on AI as decision support in the health sector. He has also contributed to a number of interdisciplinary research articles. Through his research and as an advisor in AI development projects, he has gained considerable technical and practical insight, in addition to cutting-edge expertise in current and future regulations in the technology field. He assists in all phases of projects relating to the development, commercialisation, procurement and use of information technology, AI and software. For example, he assists with drafting and negotiating contracts, assessing strategic and regulatory matters and safeguarding intellectual property rights. He has in-depth methodological knowledge of risk management and assists with the adaptation of risk management systems in the face of new technology and new regulations. He has particular experience with health technology and health law, including the regulatory framework for medical devices, use of health data, health research and clinical trials. He writes legal commentaries for Karnov/Lovdata on the Medical Devices Act, the Health Personnel Act (with Befring) and the Health Research Act (with Befring and Engelschiøn). Mathias also has broad knowledge of contract law and administrative law, and has taught these subjects at UiT the Arctic University of Norway.
