Hugo Doornhof is a lawyer and partner at AKD who specialises in administrative law, environmental law and civil law in relation to the public sector. He assists industrial companies and supermarkets in municipal and legal proceedings when they want to expand or relocate.

Hugo also provides local authorities and real estate developers with environmental law assistance in order to help them get their residential building plans off the ground. He also advises and litigates with regard to contracts and claims against the government.

Hugo is frequently involved in government actions against companies whenever they violate environmental law rules or safety regulations. He regularly acts as defence counsel with respect to enforcement actions by environmental services, the Inspectorate SZW, the Netherlands Food and Consumer Product Safety Authority [Nederlandse Voedsel- en Warenautoriteit] and the Human Environment and Transport Inspectorate [Inspectie Leefomgeving en Transport].

Hugo is an authority in the field of municipal law. He advises on inter-municipal partnerships, re-divisions, issues of integrity and public order. Clients appreciate his experience in local and national politics. Hugo publishes and lectures frequently on issues in his specialist field.

In addition to his legal expertise, Hugo has ample experience as a municipal council vice-chairman. He is now a member of the Dutch Senate (CDA). Thanks to his specialist knowledge and hands-on experience as an administrator, clients can count on thorough and practical advice and proceedings. Hugo knows, like no other, how administrative relationships and decision-making processes have to be taken into account when making strategic choices.

Hugo publishes in, among others, legal journals like 'Gemeentestem', 'Bouwrecht' and 'Jurisprudentie voor gemeenten'. He also lectures at the VU Amsterdam and at the Academy for Legislation [Academie voor Overheidsjuristen] and the Association of Netherlands Municipalities [Vereniging van Nederlandse Gemeenten].

As an academic lawyer, Hugo enjoys taking time to study legal and strategic problems, particularly in connection to his interest in public administration. If you have any such questions, Hugo is always happy to exchange some ideas on them with you.
