René van der Paardt is a partner and tax consultant at AKD who has years of experience with VAT and transfer tax law. René mainly advises large and medium-sized companies that are looking for a solution for complex VAT and/or transfer-related problems. In addition, other law firms and tax consultancies regularly ask him for a second or expert opinion.

René's clients include investors, real estate funds, property developers, local authorities and housing associations. He also advises companies that operate at international level. His clients appreciate his direct advice which is immediately usable in practice.

René lectures at Nyenrode Business University and the International Tax Center in Leiden and used to be a part-time Professor of Economics of Taxation at the Department of Business Economics at Erasmus University Rotterdam. René also gives talks on VAT and transfer tax and publishes regularly on these issues. On top of all this he works as an editor at the Private Law, Notarial Profession and Registration Weekly [Weekblad voor Privaatrecht, Notariaat en Registratie] (WPNR) and the Construction Law journal [Tijdschrift Bouwrecht].

René is also a reliable adviser when it comes to mediating disputes with the Dutch Tax and Customs Administration in situations in which proceedings before the tax court are unavoidable. René has also conducted numerous proceedings relating to the tax areas referred to before ordinary courts and courts of appeal. In addition he has conducted a number of cassation proceedings and three proceedings before the European Court of Justice.
