Position

Koen is a Partner in the Fieldfisher's Brussels office.

Career

Working within the European and Belgian legal systems, Koen practices in the areas of European Union environmental and regulatory law, government contracts, European competition and procurement law, investment and subsidy policy in the Flemish Community, implementation of European legislation in the Flemish Community and overall co-operation with the Belgian government.

He works with clients in the chemical, biocide and plant protection product industries, who note that he has 'extremely good insight into how the European Commission works and how we can align our expectations accordingly.' Koen also handles environmental law issues, often involving the regulation of highly toxic substances.

He has served as a legal adviser to the Flemish Minister of Economy and he counsels US and European clients regarding trade and investment problems in Europe, particularly in Belgium.

Koen has established many task forces and associations, working on issues ranging from the regulation of industrial minerals and chemical products to the development of interbank exchange rates for the Euro.

He has contributed to many publications such as 'With a licence to kill: biocidal products under a new EU draft regulation' (Specialty Chemicals, Online, Feb 2011).

Koen is fluent in English, French and Dutch and speak a good level of German.
