Position

Head of EU Regulatory, Competition & Trade practice Specialising in EU Regulatory law / Product Defence / Litigation / with particular focus on chemicals (REACH) / agrochemicals / biocides / life sciences (medical devices, pharma, cosmetics) industry sectors, as well as H&S / environmental laws (RoHS / WEEE / product safety / product compliance / CE mark / product recalls), including advocacy at EU and national levels.

Career

Claudio's practice is focused on European Union law, with an emphasis on the chemicals (REACH), pesticides, biocides and life sciences industry sectors, as well as other regulated industries including medical devices, pharmaceuticals, cosmetics, toys, electrical and electronic equipment, and fuel additives. In addition, he is closely following the European Law developments in the chemicals sector and provides legal support to clients and advocacy firms with their lobbying projects.

He handles issues related to product approval in the EU, related litigation before European and national courts as well as WTO panels, and counsels companies on a wide range of business law and antitrust matters relating to their commercial agreements and presence in Europe.

His expertise covers all aspects of product regulations and restrictions (including notification, data protection, mutual recognition, classification & labelling, marketing and use restrictions, parallel imports, environmental liability, product recalls and data compensation negotiations, among others).

Claudio advises life sciences clients on the importation, regulation and sale of medical devices, pharmaceuticals, GMOs, novel food, food supplements and food contact materials.

He represents chemical companies before the European institutions, member state authorities, scientific committees, and the European courts.

He  was involved in the first case of data sharing arbitration in Italy and in a case of alleged abuse of dominant position in pesticides markets, both of which he successfully resolved.

Since then, he has defended a multitude of cases over 20 years in various fora, ranging from EU courts, to ECHA's Board of Appeal, arbitration panels and national courts.
