Stewart is a partner in the Restructuring and Insolvency group at Fieldfisher and is a well-known and highly respected expert in his field.

Stewart is the chair of the R3 General Technical Committee, a member of R3's Council and a member of the consulting editorial board of LexisNexis PSL. He was the 2017 TRI Corporate Restructuring Lawyer of the Year, and in 2023 was the sole recipient of the R3 President's Award in recognition of his contribution to R3 and the wider restructuring and insolvency profession.

In October 2020, Stewart orchestrated the design, development and launch of a new Standard Form CVA, in collaboration with R3 and Peter Walton, Professor of Insolvency Law at the University of Wolverhampton, who is also a member of R3’s General Technical Committee.  The Standard Form CVA was very well received by the insolvency industry and its launch was covered by The Times, Accountancy Daily and SmallBusiness.co.uk.
