Mikael Åström has specialised in Compliance for many years within such fields as EU & Competition law, anti-corruption, trade sanctions and whistleblowing. Mikael is one of Sweden’s leading specialists in EU & Competition law and regularly assists companies with acquisition control, regulatory compliance, contract situations, dawn raids, implementation of compliance programs as well as coordinating leniency applications in connection with cartels, vertical price fixing or other undue market influence. Mikael has been an advisor to the Swedish Competition Authority and is regularly engaged as an observer at meetings between competitors and within the framework of industry organizations.
Mikael also has many years of experience in global trade sanctions and regularly helps companies with risk assessments, analyses of trade flows, investigations of products and services and movement of capital. He has also represented clients before The National Board of Trade Sweden and the Inspectorate of Strategic Products (ISP). As an integral part of MAQS’ work with compliance, Mikael leads the firm’s work with clients’ implementation of whistleblowing systems and other regulatory compliance in the area. MAQS offers, among other, a complete turnkey IT solution that handles both the technical and the legal requirements that the legislator places on whistleblowing systems.
