Career

Markus studied Law and Economics at the Universities of Marburg, Gießen, Bonn and Speyer and has practiced as a lawyer since 1994. Before co-founding the Cologne and Brussels offices of avocado rechtsanwälte as partner in 2000, he had already been a partner for a number of years in a reputable public law oriented law firm in Cologne. His practice includes the provision of legal advice to and representation of waste management enterprises as well as enterprises from the manufacturing industry regarding all aspects of environmental law, in particular waste management and pollution control law. Markus has also gained considerable experience in the legal advice and representation of contracting authorities and tenderers in privatisation projects and in procurement by tender proceedings, including the handling of anti-trust and state aids related issues. Moreover, he has represented enterprises from the waste management as well as the logistics and transport branches in various complaint procedures before the EU-Commission. In addition to his work as a lawyer, Markus regularly lectures for various enterprises, educational institutions, universities, and other institutions. He is distinguished through numerous publications on national and European environmental law as well as public procurement law.
