Position

Maaike Coenen has worked at Hertoghs advocaten since September 2015 and has been registered as an attorney since August 2016. She specializes in tax litigation and criminal cases relating to white collar crime.

Career

Maaike graduated in criminal law at Utrecht University. She wrote her thesis on trial by media, focusing mainly on the mitigating or aggravating influence trial by media may have on the determination of the sentence. She was a board member of Sirius law study association of Utrecht Law College. She also worked as an intern at the Public Prosecutor’s Office, focusing mainly on human trafficking cases.

During her studies she won several advocacy competitions, amongst which the first Hertoghs’ National Advocacy Competition in 2013. She completed an internship at Hertoghs and started working for Hertoghs after she graduated.

Maaike specializes in tax litigation and criminal cases. She assists clients who are suspected of white collar crime, such as fraud (tax fraud, embezzlement, forgery), corruption and money laundering. In this context she also has experience in confiscation cases.
