Career
Paul H. Assies studied law in Cologne and Legal Service Management in Nottingham. Specialising in banking and capital markets law, he advises and represents public and private banks, insurance companies, investment advisory firms and leasing companies. He focuses on issues relating to investment advice in the regulated and grey capital markets and credit law as well as banking supervisory and leasing contract law. Investors and lenders are regularly advised on complex loan structures. In the area of complex litigation, Paul H. Assies specialises in banking law and automotive law, where he and his team advise and represent vehicle manufacturers in large-scale proceedings.
Paul H. Assies is Chairman of the Preliminary Examination Committee "Specialist Lawyer for Banking and Capital Markets Law" of the Cologne Bar Association. Until November 2019, he was also Chairman of the Banking and Capital Markets Law Working Group of the German Bar Association. As a member of the advisory board of the event series "Banking Law Practitioner Seminars" at the Rheinische Friedrich-Wilhelms-Universität Bonn, he promotes the exchange between practitioners and academics. He is a member of the DIS (German Institution of Arbitration).
Paul H. Assies is co-editor of the "Zeitschrift für Bank- und Kapitalmarktrecht (BKR)" and author of numerous book publications, including the standard works "Handbuch des Fachanwalts Bank- und Kapitalmarktrecht", "Formularbuch und Praxis der freiwilligen Gerichtsbarkeit", "Das Prozessformularbuch", "Beck'sches Formularbuch für die Anwaltskanzlei" and "Der Leasingvertrag". In 2019, 2020 and 2021, he was honoured by FOCUS as a "Top Lawyer for Banks". BRANDEINS also named Paul H. Assies "Top Lawyer for Banks" in 2022 and 2023.
