Career

Dr Stephan Gruber studied law at the Ludwig Maximilian University in Munich and received his doctorate at the Max Planck Institute for Intellectual Property in 1985.

Dr Stephan Gruber is active in trademark law and competition law in a forensic and advisory capacity. He specializes in litigious patent and utility model law. He regularly conducts patent infringement and nullity proceedings in all technical fields, with a focus on electronics and electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, chemistry and medical technology.

Dr Stephan Gruber regularly publishes in professional journals. He is editor and co-author of a textbook on European and international patent law, now in its 7th edition. He comments in the trademark commentary “v. Schultz” on corporate trademark law. Stephan Gruber regularly lectures on national and international patent law.

In 2016, the Handelsblatt identified Dr Stephan Gruber as one of “Germany’s best lawyers” in intellectual property law. In Wirtschaftswoche he was named one of the 20 leading attorneys for patent law in 2017. In 2018, the Managing Intellectual Property listed him as an IP star for patent law and trademark law.
