Julian joined EY’s Tax Litigation and Dispute Resolution team in January 2020 from Bird & Bird where he was a partner and co-founder of the tax disputes and investigations practice. In 2022 he was made Partner at EY.
Whilst at Bird & Bird he helped guide clients through a wide range of tax related enquiries, investigations and court/tribunal proceedings.
Prior to Bird & Bird, Julian was a senior solicitor at PwC Legal and at Pinsent Masons.
Julian qualified as a solicitor in 2009 and has 15 years of tax litigation and investigations experience. He has been at the forefront of VAT ('missing trader') and customs and excise duty fraud litigation and investigations for over a decade, having been involved in many of the leading tax cases in this area. Julian played a key role in the corporate investigations that arose from the carbon credit 'missing trader' frauds in 2009 and has advised extensively within the alcohol sector in respect of HMRC’s interventions to address alcohol duty diversion fraud.
