Position

Dr Detlef Mäder specialises in competition and trademark law as well as in the other related areas of intellectual property rights (i.e. design rights, rights against product piracy) and telecommunications law. Dr Detlef Mäder has comprehensive litigation experience throughout Germany in patent, trademark, unfair competition and copyright disputes. He also advises his clients on contractual drafting issues such as licence matters.

Career

Dr Detlef Mäder studied law in Freiburg, Germany, from 1989 to 1994 and completed his first bar examination in 1994. He worked as a research assistant at the Max Planck Institute in Foreign and International Criminal Law in Freiburg and at the University of Cologne from 1994 to 1996. During this time, he completed his dissertation and was awarded his doctor's degree (Dr. jur). from the University of Freiburg in 1996. He was admitted to the bar in 1998 and joined Luther’s predecessor law firm in 1996. Dr Detlef Mäder has been a Partner at Luther since 2005 and is head of Cologne office since 1 June 2014.
