Position

Eric De Gryse is a specialist in intellectual property law. He mainly deals with matters of patent law, know-how and technology transfers in a number of technical areas, as well as trade mark law. On these points, he advises clients and acts in national and international litigation, particularly in the areas of pharmaceuticals and chemicals and in relation to food products and services.

He also has in-depth experience and knowledge in certain specific branches of intellectual property law (such as plant varieties, origin names and other geographical indications) and in consumer law, trade practices, unfair competition and a number of other regulated areas (advertising in the pharmaceuticals sector, regulation in relation to human cell and skin banks, e-commerce, standardisation, certification, collective trades and labels, the labelling and regulation of food, the fight against piracy, etc.).

Member of Brussels Bar since 1994; partner at Simont Braun since 2000; researcher at the Centre for Intellectual Property Right, University of Louvain (1994-1998); visiting professor University of Ghent; lecturer University of Liège; editor of the "Revue de Droit Commercial belge" (coordinator for the fields of intellectual property rights, law and technology).

Eric is the editor of the "Revue de Droit Commercial Belge" (coordinator for the fields of competition, intellectual property rights, and law and technology) and is the author and co-author of several publications in these areas of practice.

He is a lecturer at the University of Liège, where he teaches the course on "Industrie Alimentaire" (additional masters in European law: Competition Law and Intellectual Property Law). He is also associated with the Intellectual Property Research Centre at the University of Leuven (KUL – KUB) as an outside lecturer (he was a researcher from 1994 to 1998).

Eric is an active member of a number of professional organisations. He is the secretary and a member of the board of the European Patent Lawyers' Association (EPLAW). He has been a member of several committees within the International Trademark Association (I.N.T.A.) and is currently the president of the Europe/Middle-East sub-committee of the Geographical Indications Committee. He participated in the publication of many national reports for the International Association for the Protection of Intellectual Property (A.I.P.P.I.).

Eric is also a member of the Benelux Association of Trade Mark and Design Law (B.M.M.), the Deutsche Vereinigung für gewerblichen Rechtsschutz und Urheberrecht(G.R.U.R.), the Intellectual Property Lawyers' Organisation (TIPLO), the International Competition Law League (L.I.D.C.) and the Belgian Copyright Association (A.B.A.).
