Career
Marlen is a Partner and the Director of the Litigation, Mediation & Arbitration Department of RocaJunyent at the Madrid office, as well as the Co-Head of the Innovation Department and Co-Director of the Latam Desk. Outside the firm, she is Secretary of the Ibero-American Law Section of the Royal Academy of Jurisprudence and Spanish Legislation and Vice-President of the International Legal Service Committee of the General Council of Lawyers of Europe, as well as a member of the CIAR Advisory Council, which is also responsible for relations with companies.
She is also President of the eSports, Recreational Activities and Public Shows Section of the Madrid Bar Association.
Finally, she is a mentor of Endeavor, one of the most important global movements in relation to the entrepreneurial culture and founder and President of Women in a Legal World, a non-profit association that aims to promote female talent within the legal sector.
She has extensive experience in resolving disputes. Throughout her professional career, which was spent in Madrid and London, Marlen has provided advice to companies in all sectors (banking, energy, construction, distribution, consumption, insurance, venture capital, etc.), both in national and private disputes, before international courts, judicial tribunals (in all instances) and arbitration courts among which are the following: International Chamber of Commerce (ICC), International Center for Settlement of Investment Disputes (ICSID), London Court of International Arbitration (LCIA), Stockholm Chamber of Commerce (SCC), Swiss Chamber Arbitration Institution (SCAI), Ibero-American Arbitration Center (CIAR), Madrid Court of Arbitration (CAM), Spanish Court of Arbitration (CEA), Malaga Arbitration Court, Barcelona Arbitration Court, etc. Marlen has also advised and collaborated closely with several institutions, she is the Spanish representative in the Task Force of the ICC Arbitration and ADR Commission, the Head of Companies in CEA Mujeres and drafted the Statutes and Regulations of the Ibero-American Arbitration Center (CIAR).
In the educational field, Marlen has been a professor in matters of arbitration and mediation at IE University, Comillas Pontifical University, Carlos III University, Complutense University, ICAM and in the Master’s Degree in Management of Construction and Real Estate Companies at the Polytechnic University of Madrid, among other universities. She is part of the Advisory Council of the Master’s Degree in Business Legal Advice at the Carlos III University and is the Director of the International Arbitration Program launched by the ICC and the General Council of Spanish Lawyers.
In the field of mediation, Marlen has participated in several national and international mediations (in the latter area mainly during her stay in London), in civil and commercial matters. In the national environment, she is a mediator of the Spanish Mediation Center (CEM).
Likewise, Marlen has proven experience in the field of contentious-administrative mediation, the mediation of the “Edificio Conde de Fenosa” having been the most prominent one in this field.
She has experience as both arbitrator and counsel in national and international arbitrations that deal with the following matters: financial sector, sale of companies, construction/infrastructure, retail, investments, agency and distribution, joint venture, venture capital and corporate agreements. She has held the position of arbitrator in prestigious arbitration centers and institutions such as the ICC, CAM, CEA and AEA, among others.
Marlen has been recognised as a leading lawyer in her field by renowned international directories such as Chambers & Partners, Legal 500, Leaders League and Best Lawyers. Chosen as one of the 500 most influential women in Spain (El Mundo - Yo Dona, 2019 and 2021) and awarded by Iberian Lawyer with the Top 50 InspiralLAw Award in Spain and Portugal in 2019, 2021 and 2022.
