Career

Michael Veintimilla is a partner of the firm, and his career in it began in 1997. He is one of the directors of the firm’s corporate and competition area.

He is dedicated to advising mostly foreign clients, large and medium-sized companies, from various sectors of the economy in their corporate and competition matters in Ecuador. His practice includes advising on commercial and civil matters for his clients as well.

He has acted in the negotiation for the acquisition of assets of his clients in Ecuador. Within these, he has been in charge of ensuring compliance with the regulatory aspects of these acquisitions, both by competition rules and regulatory rules. He has also advised and negotiated within financing projects that his clients have sought (project finance) with the resources of these assets.

Part of his practice has focused on negotiating on behalf of his clients in commercial and contractual matters, whether they are part of joint ventures or have interests in Ecuador with third parties.

He is an arbitrator of the Arbitration and Mediation Center of the Quito Chamber of Commerce, and as such he has intervened in commercial and civil disputes since 2014.

EXPERIENCE

  • Preventive advice on competition law matters to various national and foreign companies in their operations in Ecuador, as well as to associations of companies in Ecuador. This includes economic operators in the oil, cement, and rubber industries, assemblers, importers, vehicle distributors, operators in the agrochemical sector, telecommunications, plasma producers, among others.
  • Defence of companies before investigations by the competition authority for alleged anti-competitive practices within the indicated sectors.
  • Corporate, civil and commercial contractual advice to clients within the oil industry, commercialization of derivatives, asphalt, mines, and cement plants, construction of civil works, public works, engineering, forestry projects, timber industry, food, telecommunications, textiles, technology, tour operators, international trade operators.
  • M&A, preparation and conduct of studies (due diligence), prior to the acquisition of assets in Ecuador. Negotiations for the acquisition or sale of these assets in Ecuador.
