Career
As a member of our Dispute Resolution and Risk Management team, Marcus Niin supports colleagues in resolving various civil disputes and arbitration proceedings.
A detailed understanding of the judicial system. Before joining Sorainen, he worked at the Supreme Court of Estonia and the civil collegium of Tallinn Circuit Court. As a result, he has engaged in resolving numerous civil rights disputes and successfully supported their resolution. He has had the opportunity to work closely with judges and jurists, whose opinions and standpoints are influential on the Estonian legal scene.
Comprehensive knowledge in civil rights matters. He has notable experience with civil proceedings and resolving different civil disputes (e.g. contract and obligation law; bankruptcy; family and inheritance matters). In the Supreme Court, part of his job also involved evaluating and analysing challenges that Estonian civil judges and the judicial system face, and finding suitable solutions.
Supporting future lawyers. He believes that learning is a life-long process, which is why he continues increasing his knowledge by taking part in international courses and trainings. A lot of the things he knows he has learned through teaching others. In 2017, he began teaching private international law at the University of Tartu and he has been teaching ever since. These days, he mainly teaches contract and obligation law but he has also given seminars on legal analysis and argumentation, and supervised students participating in the prestigious the Willem C. Vis International Commercial Arbitration Moot.
Strong arguments. Prior to his career in resolving legal disputes, he was an active debater and successfully participated in tournaments. He ended his career in debating by taking part in The European Universities Debating Championships. At university, his interest in debating developed into an interest in resolving legal disputes – that is why he decided to pursue a career in litigation. During his university years, he participated in the Philip C. Jessup International Law Moot Court Competition and the Willem C. Vis International Commercial Arbitration Moot. Since graduating, he has been implementing his skills of argumentation in his professional environment.
