Career

Agita Sprūde is an attorney specialising in dispute resolution. The fields that she finds especially engaging and which keeps her professionally focused are international arbitration and white collar crime investigations. Agita strongly believes in finding the right long term strategy for clients’ business needs and applying common sense in solutions to seemingly complex problems.

Representing clients in international disputes. Agita represented one of the largest European insurance groups in achieving a successful result in international commercial arbitration (SCC) concerning a post-acquisition dispute arising out of seller’s breach of warranties.

She was also part of the legal team representing Lithuanian investor E-Energija in the first claim against the Republic of Latvia before the International Centre for Settlement of Investment Disputes in Washington, DC, following Latvia’s termination of a 30-year concession agreement, which resulted in Latvia expropriating the client’s investments.

Fighting corporate crime. Agita Sprūde represents Dassault Systèmes SolidWorks Corporation with law enforcement institutions regarding illegal use of the client’s software.

She advised one of the largest IT companies in the region and prepared a contingency plan for emergency situations with regard to the company’s vulnerabilities due to bribery committed by an ex-employee in another jurisdiction. Agita has also helped numerous companies that have fallen victim to fraud or cybercrime, in asset tracing, asset-freezing and asset recovery.

Pharma sector knowledge. Agita has assisted stakeholders in negotiations and establishing the Latvian Medicines Verification Organisation (LZVO) and has the privilege of continuing to assist the LZVO in implementing the Falsified Medicines Directive and creating Latvian Medicines Verification System.
