Frédéric Saffroy’s expertise in company and business law together with Compliance & Regulatory matters helps him better support innovative businesses with regard to their projects.He monitors and optimizes the various areas of law to successfully complete complex projects in an international environment. These areas include :• Contractual techniques at the frontier of company law : partnerships (Consortium, JV, TJV), reorganization/restructuring, outsourcing, R&T, manufacturing & supply, distribution.• Intellectual property : protection, sharing, value-creation (databases, trademarks, patents, and VOCs), parallel imports, counterfeiting.• Compliance and regulatory law : activities subject to authorization (nuclear, defense, space, drones, GMOs), cyber-security and data protection (CNIL), control of foreign investment and exports (embargoes, war materials/dual use items), product compliance and safety (REACH, RoHS, WEEE, etc.), anti-corruption (OECD, FCPA) and money laundering (TRACFIN) rules, business ethics and whistle-blowing.• Competition : mergers, agreements, abuse of a dominant position, “Dawn Raids” (French and EU authorities).

Frédéric Saffroy has special expertise in the following sectors :• Industries - automotive, aerospace and defense• ICT - mapping, imaging/optronics, display, electronics• Energy - nuclear, biofuel• Life Sciences - agribusiness (seeds, plant protection, animal nutrition), pharmaceuticals and medical devices, cosmetics

Frédéric Saffroy also regularly provides training in the fields mentioned above. He also provides training on cyber-security during Economic Intelligence and Security sessions at the French Institute for Advanced Studies in National Defense (IHEDN). He also regularly works with the research centers of the History Department of the French Ministry of Defense, the Military academy’s institute for strategic research (IRSEM), and the IHEDN.

Career

Frédéric joined Alerion in 2010. He started his career at Dunlop France before joining Thomas & Associés in 1993 and Hoche in 1996. He joined Hammonds (now Squire Sanders) in 2000 where he was in charge of the Commercial & Intellectual Property Department between 2002 and 2010.

He is a member of the Space Commission of the French Society for Air and Space Law and of the High Council of Archives’s Oral Archive Commission.

Education

Frédéric holds a PhD in History (History Center of Sciences-Po - 2011). He is also a graduate in Political Sciences (Ecofi - 1991) and holds a Master’s Degree in European Law (Paris II - 1993). His thesis studied the legal, political, strategic, and military dimensions of defending France’s Mediterranean naval bases and coastline in the first half of the twentieth century.
