Since joining Mares & Mares in January 2025, Liana Iacob has brought over two decades of experience to her role as a managing associate. A savvy legal professional, Liana specializes in business criminal law and business law, making her a trusted advisor to top corporations across sectors such as energy, pharmaceuticals, IT, real estate, and financial services.

Known for her strategic legal acumen and ability to navigate complex matters, Liana has successfully trialed high-stakes  disputes, consistently delivering results-oriented representation. Her reputation as one of the field’s most reliable and proficient professionals stems from her exceptional dedication and expertise.

Liana’s core areas of expertise include fraud against the financial interests of the European Union, banking and insurance fraud, embezzlement and public procurement fraud, professional offences, corruption and tax evasion, corporate fraud and intellectual property crimes.

As lead counsel, Liana has handled high-profile cases such as the bankruptcy of a prominent Romanian insurance company, involving economic and professional offences with damages estimated at EUR 200 million, and a bank fraud case with losses of approximately EUR 8 million. Additionally, she advises multinational companies during internal and official audits on matters like employee misconduct, internal fraud, and tax evasion.

Beyond her accomplishments in business criminal law, Liana is passionate about defending the fundamental rights of individuals and companies.
