Career

Michel works in a commercial advisory and litigation practice. He heads the competition law practice group and the German Desk. In addition to advice and litigation work in the field of contract law, an important part of his practice is thus comprised of general and sector-specific competition law (both Dutch and European). Michel is involved in notifying the Dutch and/or European competition authorities of concentrations (mergers, takeovers or joint ventures) on behalf of a large number of companies. In addition, he advises companies and natural persons in the field of cartel law and assists companies subject to investigations by the Dutch or European cartel offices. Michel also counsels and litigates in cases regarding private antitrust enforcement by way of damage actions. He delivers compliance training courses, in which clients learn about competition rules, and he is a teacher for Erasmus University Rotterdam.

Education

In 1992, Michel completed his studies at Leiden University (International Law) and Universität Osnabrück, Germany (European Law). He has been working as a lawyer since 1994 and joined Ploum in 1999. In 2004, Michel became partner In 2001/2002, he completed the study programme in Dutch and European Competition Law at the Grotius Academy and in 2010 the Postgraduate Masters in EU Competition Law at King’s College in London. From 2009 until 2014 he was a member of the board of Ploum.
