Career

Kate advises on a wide range of property issues and disputes, both freehold and all aspects of Landlord and Tenant law (both commercial and residential) including dilapidations, enfranchisement/extended leases and agricultural tenancies.

Working closely with the Property and Agricultural Teams she has considerable expertise in advising on complex title issues, easements (including rights of access and rights of light), covenants, adverse possession and positively relishes the unusual and esoteric – take the case of the missing sixteenth century landlord.

She has dealt with cases at all levels, both through alternative dispute resolution and the Courts, the Land Registry Adjudicator, the Lands Chamber (previously known as the Lands Tribunal) - applications to discharge/modify restrictive covenants) and the Leasehold Valuation Tribunal, covering the length and breadth of England and Wales from Teesside to Cornwall and the Solway Firth to the Solent.

Kate acts for a wide range of clients both private and commercial including charities and academic institutions and was noted in the Legal 500 for “Excellent personal service, very speedy responses and clear advice”’

Education

Kate read history at the University of York before completing the CPE and Law Society finals (first class) at the College of Law Chester. She joined Wild Hewitson & Shaw in 1987 and, on completing training, qualified into the Litigation Team in 1989. She is a member of the Property Litigation Association.
