Career

Helene is a Partner and Master Mariner with more than 25 years’ experience of the shipping industry including 12 years’ sea-going experience.

Helene joined MFB in 2009, qualifying as a solicitor in 2012, having successfully completed a GDL, LPC and an MA in Legal Studies. Helene qualified as a solicitor in 2012 and is part of MFB’s Casualty Response Team. She specialises in admiralty law with a strong salvage/wreck removal focus in addition to traditional admiralty and dry shipping areas.

Having a sound operational background obtained onboard a wide range of vessels, many of her instructions are of a technical nature and include salvage, collisions, machinery failures, structural damage, bunker quality issues, cargo damage and safe port claims/groundings. She is frequently instructed to act for salvors, P&I Clubs, Owners and Operators. Notable cases have included MOL Discovery, Shen Neng, MSC Flaminia, MOL Comfort, Cheshire and Genessa.

She has experience of Lloyd’s Salvage Arbitration, LMAA and High Court proceedings.

Helene is an Associate Fellow of the Nautical Institute, a Liveryman of the Honourable Company of Master Mariners, a member of WISTA-UK, and a Supporting Member of the LMAA.
