Phil is a senior associate in the construction and engineering team and advises and acts in contentious and non-contentious matters

Career

Phil joined Hill Dickinson from Systech Solicitors in 2017. He is a Legal Director in the Construction and Engineering team in the Liverpool office. Phil is a solicitor and chartered quantity surveyor as well as being a member of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators.

Phil has extensive experience of dispute resolution both nationally and internationally. Phil was previously instructed to draft Referral documents to a Dispute Adjudication Board under a FIDIC contract on a multi-billion dollar coal fired power station project in South Africa. Phil drafted Referral documents on an ICC Expert Determination on intra JV disputes in relation to scope gaps on a large metro project in the Middle East. Phil also regularly acts in adjudications in the UK for numerous clients on projects involving various forms of contract.

Phil has significant experience of providing support on live projects. He is currently providing support to a large contractor on an offshore windfarm project. He was also previously seconded into the legal/contract management team of a multinational transmission and distribution contractor to deal with an Expert Determination on payment disputes with the Employer and disputes with the supply chain in relation to payment and defective work issues on what was, at the time, the largest offshore windfarm in the world. Phil also has experience of the drafting and negotiation of construction documents on large construction projects. He was the contractor client’s main point of contact in the lengthy negotiations of a full suite of construction documents on a tower scheme with a project value of circa £100m in Liverpool.

Education

Phil obtained a degree in quantity surveying from Liverpool John Moores University before completing the graduate diploma in law and the LPC at Chester College of Law.
