Career

James qualified as a solicitor in 1993 and has since qualification acted only for victims of personal injury and has a background in accident at work claims and serious and catastrophic injury claims.

James acted for the first UK claimant to undergo an elective amputation and osseointegration of a metal implant to support an electronic prosthetic foot and ankle. The procedure was performed in Sydney, Australia by Professor Munjed Al Muderis, one of the world’s leading experts in osseointegration surgery. The surgery and the prosthetic were funded out of a high 6 figure interim payment, obtained as a result of a contested application and the claim settled for a several million pounds in 2019.

James also acts for the only UK and indeed European claimant to be provided with the state-of-the-art LUKE arm, the only prosthetic device on the market with a powered shoulder. The prosthetic has been funded out of a six-figure interim payment, obtained after a contested hearing, itself following a trial on liability where the defendants blamed the claimant for the accident and one of which sought to avoid the insurance policy. The case also involved a successful appeal of a finding of 10% contributory negligence at trial to the Court of Appeal. That case is due for trial in 2021 on quantum if it does not settle beforehand.

James has successfully concluded a number of seven figure brain injury claims and currently acts for claimants with a mix of brain and additional serious orthopaedic injuries.
